That quotation's an excellent thought, Emma. If the "less is more" approach could become widespread, we might have a lot more reason for optimism. Thanks for pointing it out.
It really resonated with me, Pete, as I've made a few changes recently that have me thinking differently. (More on that in a post one day in the near future.) It reminded me of another quote I read recently, by Antoine de Saint Exupery: Perfection is achieved not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away. I disagree with the basic concept of perfection--it's not only impossible; it's boring-- but as someone who believes strongly in editing words (not that one would necessarily pick up on that from this blog...), it hit me all at once that this principle needs to be applied to everything. And I think you're right; there would be much more cause for optimism as relates to our world if that belief were widespread. Of course there is the 80/20 rule to consider as well--maybe we still have a chance! ;-)
